Special issue of Journal of International Business Studies: “Global Economic Crises and
International Business”
Type of publication: print/ online
Publication date: Winter 2011
Published by: Palgrave Macmillan
Topics:
The editors are particularly interested in how the current crisis of the global market economy affects
international business through its impact on MNEs, including the entire range of internationally active firms, from entrepreneurial start-ups to the largest, global companies. The editors are equally interested in new forms of business-government interaction in the context of international policy coordination as well as renewed protectionism. Finally, the editors also want to gain new insight on changes in the macro-level institutions of capitalism that affect IB transactions. Here, we welcome creative thinking on the design of new, macro-level institutions aimed to prevent future economic crises. From a conceptual perspective, scholars are expected to submitt papers to understand the foundations of modern international business theory, as laid out by Professor
Dunning, but also creative perspectives informed by any relevant scholarly discipline. Deadline: January 29, 2010

Special issue of Journal of International Business Studies: “Qualitative Research in
International Business”
Type of publication: print/ online
Publication date: Spring or Summer 2011
Published by: Palgrave Macmillan
Topics:
The editors hope to showcase exemplars of various forms of qualitative research that advance the
understanding of international business phenomena. Qualitative research encompasses a diversity of methods that includes, but is not limited to, single or multiple case study, ethnographic/field studies, unobtrusive observations, interviews, narrative analysis, participant observation/action research, grounded theory practice, and archival analysis of documents and texts. Some topics suitable for inclusion in the Special Issue include:
Original research contributions that use qualitative methods in an effective way; Examples of how to use multiple case studies as a way of deductively testing strong constructs induced from base ethnographies in international business research; Qualitative studies used to triangulate uncertain or “squishy” quantitative results; Exemplars of the Constant Comparative Method (Glaser &s; Strauss, 1967) as praxis (dialogue between practice and academe) used to build theory in IB; Exemplars of rigorous theory induction in IB to build strong constructs and testable propositions.
